Osseointegration fixes a metal implant inside the bone of the residual limb. A connector passes through the skin, and the prosthesis clicks onto it, so no socket is worn. The systems listed are the Integrum OPRA Implant System and the OTN Implants BADAL X. People consider this route mainly when a conventional socket causes repeated skin problems, poor fit or pain. It is surgery, followed by a staged loading and rehabilitation programme, and it carries risks including infection at the skin opening. Assessment and treatment take place at specialist centres, and these systems are listed here for reference.

It is a surgical method in which an implant bonds with the bone of the residual limb and a prosthesis attaches to it directly. Load passes through the skeleton, and there is no socket around the limb.
Candidates are assessed individually by a specialist team. It is generally considered for adults who have ongoing problems with socket prostheses. Bone quality, general health and other factors are reviewed before a decision.
