Power wheelchairs and mobility scooters

Last updated: 5 October 2026 · Total: 46 products

Battery-powered mobility comes in two families. A power wheelchair is steered with a joystick or an alternative control, turns in a small space and can carry supportive seating with powered tilt, recline or seat lift, so it suits people who use it all day and indoors. A mobility scooter is steered with a tiller like handlebars, has a swivel seat and is mostly an outdoor vehicle for people who can walk a little and sit unsupported. Both run on rechargeable batteries. The two pages below sort the models by drive layout, size and purpose.

How to choose

  • A scooter needs two working arms and good sitting balance, while a power chair can be driven with one hand or less.
  • Measure doorways, lifts and turning space at home before choosing, because indoor fit rules out many models.
  • Plan how the device will travel: dismantled in a boot, folded, or driven up a ramp into a van.
  • Think about your longest regular trip and the terrain, then ask us about realistic range for that route.

    Flying with a power wheelchair

Know your battery type, tell the airline early, strip off the fragile parts, and inspect the chair before you leave the arrival gate.

Common questions

What is the difference between a power wheelchair and a mobility scooter?

A power wheelchair is driven by a joystick, turns almost on the spot and supports specialised seating. A scooter is steered by a tiller with both hands, needs more room to turn and is mainly designed for outdoor trips.

How far can an electric wheelchair or scooter go on one charge?

Range depends on battery size, user weight, hills, temperature and speed, so published figures are best-case values. Tell us your typical journeys and we will point you to suitable models.
