Walking, standing and transfers
Last updated: 5 October 2026 · Total: 22 products
Three everyday problems are covered here. Walking aids give support and balance to people who are on their feet, from a cane to a rollator or a gait trainer. Standing frames hold a person upright who cannot stand unaided, for a period each day. Transfer and lifting equipment moves a person between bed, chair, toilet, car and pool, and gets a wheelchair up stairs, while protecting the backs of those who help. The products range from a simple wooden transfer board to ceiling track systems that need installation.

How to choose
- Describe what the person can do unaided, since equipment is graded by how much weight they bear.
- Measure the home: door widths, space around the bed and toilet, and ceiling construction for hoists.
- Check the safe working load of every item against the user's weight with clothing.
- Count how many helpers are available, because some equipment is designed for one carer and some for two.
Common questions
What equipment helps move someone from bed to wheelchair?
It depends on ability. A transfer board suits someone with good arm strength, a stand aid suits someone who can bear weight briefly, and a mobile or ceiling hoist with a sling lifts someone who cannot.
Is a rollator better than a walking frame?
A rollator has wheels on every leg, brakes and usually a seat, so it rolls continuously and suits outdoor use. A frame without wheels is lifted each step and gives firmer support.
