Prosthetic components and consumables

These are the items an amputee handles every day and replaces most often. Liners such as the WillowWood Alpha SmartTemp Silicone, Blatchford Silcare Breathe and ALPS UltraSeal roll onto the residual limb to cushion it and link it to the socket. Sleeves like the ALPS Flex Sleeve seal the top of the socket over the knee. Socks and sheaths take up volume changes during the day. Suspension systems include pin locks, lanyards, suction valves and vacuum pumps. Adjustable sockets, cosmetic covers and fairings, and skincare products complete the group. Your prosthetist confirms liner type and size.

How to choose

  • Reorder liners by the exact size, profile and thickness printed on your current one.
  • Choose between silicone, gel and urethane with your prosthetist, as each treats skin and scars differently.
  • Keep socks of several ply thicknesses to manage a limb that shrinks or swells through the day.
  • Suspension type must match the socket: a locking liner needs a lock, a seal-in liner needs a valve.

Common questions

How long does a prosthetic liner last?

Liners wear with daily use and are replaced periodically. Lifespan depends on material, activity and care. Tears, thinning, loss of grip or new skin irritation are signs that a replacement is needed.

How do I clean a prosthetic liner?

Wash the inside daily with mild soap and water, rinse well so no soap remains and let it dry before wearing. Follow the maker's instructions, since some materials should not be turned or heated.
