The Rehab-Robotics Hand of Hope robotic hand brace is worn on the back of the hand and moves the fingers when the patient attempts the movement. Two surface EMG sensors on the forearm, one over the flexor muscles and one over the extensors, pick up the patient's own signals and drive the brace. Interactive games with rising difficulty give visual feedback. It was developed in Hong Kong with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Hand of Hope is for stroke and brain-injury patients in hand rehabilitation who can produce some muscle signal in the forearm, from about eight or nine years of age upward. A clinician places the sensors, fits the brace and plans the training.
This kind of device is prescribed and fitted by a clinician. An enquiry starts that conversation. It is not a purchase.

Two EMG sensors on the forearm detect the electrical activity of the flexor and extensor muscles. When the patient tries to open or close the hand, the brace moves the fingers.
The maker says it can be applied to patients from about 8 to 9 years old.
It is described for stroke and brain-injury rehabilitation of the hand and forearm. Ask your clinician about other uses.

A few powered exoskeletons are cleared for use at home, mostly for spinal cord injury, on prescription and with a trained companion. Most others stay in clinics.
