Spex Seating is a New Zealand maker of wheelchair seating and positioning equipment with its address in Rolleston. Its website says the work began in 1990 and that the name comes from the Specification Seating program of Medifab, which later became a brand of its own. The range includes back supports, cushions, head supports, lateral trunk supports, pelvic and thigh supports, arm supports and pediatric seating. The products are sold through distributors in a number of countries.
The catalog lists three Spex items under backrests, postural supports and headrests: the Vigour Back Support, the Swing-Away Lateral Trunk Support and the Comfort Head Support. These are modular components that mount on a wheelchair with dedicated mounting hardware, and they are normally chosen and set up by a seating therapist or technician. When asking for a quote, give the chair make and model, the back cane width, the user's trunk measurements and the mounting hardware required, and ask which distributor covers your country.
