Casters, forks and front attachments

Last updated: 5 October 2026 · Total: 17 products

The small front wheels decide how a chair copes with cracks, cobbles and door sills. Suspension caster forks, such as the Frog Legs Phase I and the carbon Frog Legs II, put an elastomer between fork and frame to absorb shocks before they reach the spine and hands. Caster wheels differ in diameter, width and tread hardness, with wide soft-roll types like the Frog Legs EPIC aimed at uneven surfaces. Front free-wheel attachments clamp to the footrest and lift both casters, leaving one large wheel in front for grass, gravel and snow.

How to choose

  • Small hard casters turn quickly indoors, while larger or softer ones roll over obstacles more easily outdoors.
  • Check that a bigger caster still clears your feet and footplate through a full swivel.
  • Confirm the fork stem and axle bolt sizes of your frame before ordering a replacement fork or wheel.
  • A free-wheel attachment needs a compatible rigid footrest, so tell us your footplate type.

Common questions

Why does my wheelchair caster flutter?

Flutter, a fast side-to-side shimmy, usually comes from worn bearings, a loose stem bolt, a caster housing that is not vertical or a wheel worn out of round. It tends to get worse with speed.

What does a suspension caster fork do?

It lets the front wheel move slightly against a cushion when it hits a bump. This reduces vibration and jolts passed to the rider and lowers the chance of the chair stopping dead on a small obstacle.
