How often should a wheelchair be serviced?
Check tire pressure and brakes weekly, and clean hair and dirt from caster axles regularly. A fuller inspection of bearings, bolts, upholstery and frame once or twice a year suits most users, more often with heavy use.
How do I know wheelchair bearings need replacing?
Spin the wheel off the ground. Grinding noise, roughness, side play or a wheel that stops quickly all point to worn bearings. Casters are affected first because they collect hair and grit.
