Everyday manual wheelchairs

Last updated: 5 October 2026 · Total: 26 products

These are the chairs people use from morning to night at home, at work and in town. Rigid-frame active chairs such as the Quickie Nitrum, TiLite Z and Küschall K-Series are built to the rider's measurements in aluminium, titanium or carbon, and they turn most of each push into forward movement. Lightweight folding chairs give up a little stiffness for a frame that closes flat. Standard and transport chairs are heavier steel or aluminium models with fixed sizes, meant for part-time use, hospital corridors or being pushed by a companion.

How to choose

  • Choose rigid for all-day independent use and folding when the chair must fit a small boot or cupboard regularly.
  • Check the weight of the frame without wheels if you lift it into a car yourself several times a day.
  • Ask about adjustable centre of gravity, because moving the rear axle forward makes pushing easier but the chair tips back sooner.
  • A transport chair with small rear wheels cannot be self-propelled, so pick it only if someone always pushes.

    Rigid vs folding frame

Rigid frames win on weight and push efficiency. Folding frames win on packing size. The gap is smaller than it used to be, so check real figures.

How to measure yourself for a wheelchair

A few body measurements, a firm tape and a helper are enough to prepare for a wheelchair order. Here is how to take each one and what it becomes.

Common questions

What is an ultralight wheelchair?

It is a manual chair with a very light frame, usually rigid, that is ordered to individual measurements and has adjustable axle position, seat angle and backrest. Low weight and a precise fit reduce the effort of each push and the load on the shoulders.

Is titanium or carbon better than aluminium for a wheelchair frame?

Each has trade-offs. Aluminium is stiff and the most affordable. Titanium absorbs some vibration and resists corrosion. Carbon fibre can be very light and stiff but costs more and needs care against sharp impacts. Fit and setup matter more than material.
