The Vipamat Hippocampe is a low, amphibious beach and all-terrain wheelchair made in France. The frame is aluminium treated for seawater, with stainless steel axles and a closed-cell foam seat that does not soak up water. Wheels can be swapped to suit sand, trails or snow, and the chair goes into the sea or a pool. US retailer figures give 37 lb and a 286 lb capacity.
For beach-goers, hikers and swimmers who want one chair for sand, paths, snow and water. It can be self-propelled using the grip-covered hand rims or pushed by a companion, and comes in four sizes by height.
